JA New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame - Year Four
The 2016 Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame will mark the 20th Anniversary of the induction ceremony. As part of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations, we’re taking a look back at the previous 19 events that brought us to year 20! This week we’re excited to relive Year Four of the Business Hall of Fame…2000!
In 2000, the New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame headed headed back to the Greater Moncton region and celebrated the induction of 3 deserving New Brunswick business giants. 2000 was a special year as the first woman was inducted into the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame! The three deserving Laureates represented businesses like Chemises JML Shirts Inc., Apex Industries and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
CLASS OF 2000
Jean-Marc Lafontaine is the founder of Chemises JML Shirts Inc., a leader in shirt manufacturing since 1953. The company employs more than 300 people in the Madawaska area. Jean-Marc Lafontaine achieved early and consistent success with a deceptively simple formula: fulfilling the customer’s requirements at a competitive price and treating employees like partners in that process.
Jack Stultz worked in a variety of construction and insurance companies before founding Apex Industries in 1961 with 5 colleagues in a small metal shed on Pacific Avenue in Moncton. Apex has evolved to become an industry leader in manufacturing and innovation in a variety of sectors with 210 employees and over $23 million in sales.
Ruth Cook Wilson co-founded the organization that has became known as the Maritime Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association in 1944 before universal health insurance. Ruth Cook Wilson served as Executive Director until 1958, by which time Maritime Blue Cross had over 330,000 members and Maritime Blue Shield has more than 200,000 subscribers.
The 20th Anniversary of the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame will take place on November 1st in Moncton at Casino New Brunswick. For ticket information, please visit www.janbhalloffame.ca or call the JA New Brunswick office at 506.455.6552!
